Design Tip Tuesday: Styling an Existing Space

The outcome of styling an existing space is very rewarding and can make a huge difference in your home. It can also be a very challenging task. It can be challenging because sometimes you have to work with some design elements that can not be removed or fixed.

When styling an existing space, you first want to consider what current features need to be factored in. Once you find all of those features, you can start looking for the colors and elements you would like to incorporate. Styling a space is not a super easy process for most people, just because it does take time and money. This is the part where you can pick up the phone and call us for help, of course, cause we will save you both time and money.

Here is an example of a living room; we took into account what the client wanted to keep, and we took the colors they wanted to incorporate and went to work.

As you can see after looking at the before and after photos, the items that we kept were the carpeting, tv, tv stand, and speakers. In every item that we added to this space, we needed to keep in mind that we had a few things that needed to be kept. Just so that we didn't pick any items that wouldn't work with the style we were going for.

So what we did for this space is we simplified the decor items to give a more clean and fresh look. We created a black feature wall behind the tv to create a focal point in this room. Adding a lot more decor items would have distracted from the black feature wall.

Something to be pointed out from this transformed space is that we used clean straight lines a lot, but to soften up the space we also used curves in the different accents throughout the room.

For this next existing space, the before and after photos are totally different. The transformed space is more bright and uses more design elements, like color and balance.

When looking at both spaces, something that pops out to me right away is that with the after photo, your eye tends to move up in the space because it is brighter has color moving throughout.

In using contrast with lighter and darker colors, it creates a more appealing and inviting room. The after photo also has a lot more personality compared to the before picture. There is also more of a balance in the after photo. The things used to create that balance are color, furniture, the two built-ins, and the accents on the mantle.

Another great thing about this transformed space is that there is new flooring placed throughout the area. It helps make the space feel larger and more cohesive with the other rooms in the home.

Something that can also be noticed from these images is that some decor items were reused. Keep in mind that you dont need to buy all new decor to make your space look amazing. Sometimes you just need to rearrange and add some new pieces.

Thank you for joining in and reading! I hope you got an insight into what we do, who we work with, the reality behind making old spaces new, and how awesome are clients are!
