Modern Farmhouse Basement- Shaw part 2

After MONTHS of planning the Shaw’s were anxious to start their lower level basement project! And with good reason... the anticipation of seeing how awesome your space will be is fun but also torture!

So many things go into finishing a basement, even a new construction space were everything the level, square, plumbed, etc requires phases and revolves around sub contractor's schedules.

Making sure everything is planned out on the front end is so important and sometimes doesn’t make sense to clients. We have to ensure the project moves smoothly and as fast as possible once it is started. I have let clients convince me to just get started (against my advice) and it doesn’t go as well!

The project moved pretty quickly even with a few bumps in the road (like always)... like some cabinetry coming damaged and having to play the waiting replacement game. Or the worst I have had yet, having the upstairs suffer water damage because of an ice jam and having to stop work on the basement to take care of the main floor.

Thank goodness there was a contractor on site when it happened and the clients didn’t need to be worried or stressed (any more than they already were) about it.

Now these delays were not in my or the contractor’s control, but they do impact the client. We had to devise a plan immediately on a solution for upstairs. You will read all about this in Part 4.

One of the most fun parts of my job is when clients see progress and can see it starting to all come together and make sense! I loved getting texts with their excitement as we progressed!
